What about this one?
It takes into account many-many views and preferences.
(a.) It takes into consideration the current "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" flag, namely red stripes at top and bottom and white in the middle.
(b.) It takes into consideration the A-plan flag, namely blue on top, copper yellow in the middle and red in the bottom.
(c.) It retains the original Republic of Cyprus flag idea, which by the way was designed by a Turkish Cypriot.
(d.) It takes into consideration the colours of the British, the third "foster-mother's," flag.
(d.) etc, etc.
PS1: The colour of Cyprus shape is not yellow or orange-yellow, but the copper yellow.
PS2: The branches bellow the Cyprus's shapes are olive branches and they should look so. |
Too good to be designed by you Kifeas! |

I think this one should look better.

I narrowed and changed a bit the blue and red stripes so that they do not look similar to those of the Greek and Turkish flag |

Kifeas,
I like your design but do we have to keep the color of Cyprus. It is such an ugly color. Can you experiment with some different shades? I do like what you have done with the peripheral stripes keep that. |

| i think it would be better to have a brand new design reflecting a beginning of a new era. this would be psychologically important for the success of the new cyprus. brand new colors and ideas are whats needed. I think green and white would be ideal as neither greek nor turkish flag has these and it gives cyprus her own colors. |

To be brutally honest with you, whether we like it or not, the colours of the 'motherlands' are and will always be an integral part of Cyprus too. You can try to force people to change their self-image, but 9 times out of 10 you will fail. The AP flag was a disaster, chosen because it was the least contentious option (largely because everyone was able to agree that it was awful). I don't think we need to run away from the fact that the majority of Greek Cypriots will identify with the blue and white of Greece and the majority of Turkish Cypriots will identify with the red of Turkey. These colours have meaning and a story to tell. What does green have to do with Cyprus beyond the colour of the trees in the mountains... as for white, the colour of peace... we've been sadly lacking in that respect for some time now. To be adopted by everyone a flag has to speak to the people, all of them, and signify a joint meaning. |

i m not against having red and blue, in fact i rather like the idea of flag no 6. i know everybody says it looks like the Netherlans Antiliian flag but I happen to think it looks very nice.
the reason i said green / white is because as a football fan i like the omonia nicosia football club flag complete with all those shamrocks, it gives an irishy feel to cyprus. "Hello there paddy" |

Mehmet, your links always appear a bit weird. Lots of html code involved.
Or is it just me and Firefox? |

Sorry to rain on your parade people. You obviously have forgotten that green is the color of Islam. I think that most Greek Cypriot's would probably think twice or thrice before allowing that no matter how friendly the Irish are.
In the meantime: "I'll teyk the low roed yewel take the hey roed, eyel get ta Londen afere yew".(Irish pub song) Bloody Irish. Everyone loves them including me. |
