BTW I just wrote R o C and it was published as "Republic of Cyprus" |
There is an automated system that turns Republic of Cyprus to repulic of cyprus, Greek Cypriot to greek cypriot and Turkish Cypriot to turkish cypriot etc.
One of may little things that Erol put into the forum. |

With this in mind, it is clear why the current flag of Cyprus sucks so much. Island contour is difficult to draw. Low contrast of yellow on white. Too simple ideologically. And it is also too easy to confuse with the white flag of surrender.

I agree that it might be hard to draw the island with the current flag, I disagree that the current flag of Cyprus sucks though. I think the current Republic of Cyprus flag is very unique. It's the only flag in the world with the map of the Cyprus. Its white background gives a pure feeling to it. Yellow might be low contrast on white but it goes well with the green olive leaves.

I think that current flag is so weak that it should be changed as soon as possible. And current design shouldn't be used in any derivative work what-so-ever.
|
In what sense weak? What you consider weak actually represents purity and neutrality for me and I think that was the idea behind the original flag anyway. |
I completely agree with Mete here. I think the current Republic of Cyprus flag is just perfect. But since its the Republic of Cyprus flag and Turkish Cypriot do, for obvious reasons, not feel represented by it (anymore), there is the need for a new one.
Although I liked Chris' suggestion very much, nr. 10 is nice as well. |

What about this one?
It takes into account many-many views and preferences.
(a.) It takes into consideration the current "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" flag, namely red stripes at top and bottom and white in the middle.
(b.) It takes into consideration the A-plan flag, namely blue on top, copper yellow in the middle and red in the bottom.
(c.) It retains the original Republic of Cyprus flag idea, which by the way was designed by a Turkish Cypriot.
(d.) It takes into consideration the colours of the British, the third "foster-mother's," flag.
(d.) etc, etc.
PS1: The colour of Cyprus shape is not yellow or orange-yellow, but the copper yellow.
PS2: The branches bellow the Cyprus's shapes are olive branches and they should look so. |

I forgot to mention the last one consideration. When the Annan flag made it's appearance, Rauf Bey complained that the blue colour was placed on top and the red one at the bottom. Now with my design he cannot complain any more as the red went on top and the blue in the bottom.

Who knows the name of the Turkish Cypriot who made the first drawing of the current Cyprus flag?

| The A-Plan Flag can go away. It has no place in the Cypriot Flag. Cypriots will decide not some men in suits in a different country |

Its nice, thats true, but I'm sorry, I still do not see the necessity that the flag of Cyprus contains the colors of Turkey and/or Greece. Sorry.
But, if it has to contain red and blue then I like Kifeas' suggestion.
Its getting more difficult here to really decide which one is the best. |
