Hi andytandreou and welcome to the forum
welcome

Stick around for a while before you make that hasty exit and you may find that you fit in here perfectly.

Also i spoke to brian aka devil from CF and he said the same things, almost identical, is this some sort of set up to disrupt this forum, i hope not. Wink

I have decided to stay...

I like the fact that you guys have RSS and I love the quick-reply feature also. You have also won me over on moral grounds by the fact that this site is user owned and operated.

I stand by my arguments that too many sections actually lead to less participation. I can guarantee you that only 2 or 3 sections will be used heavily. The "international news" section is a mockery of what a forum should be. If today was September 11th 2001 and the twin towers had just been hit, do you think I would go to the tiny "international news" section and talk about it there? I think not! Argue this point as much as you want but the figures will be there for all to see!

Also please get rid of that stupid pigeon carrying an olive branch. Please do this if nothing else!! We are not dedicated to peace in Cyprus because peace has been reached, as you can tell from the warming of relations between the two communities. PLEASE! This site will be viewed by people everywhere and I really don't like my country portrayed as a war-zone or a refugee camp. PEACE HAS BEEN REACHED ALREADY!!! AS CYPRIOT WE STRIVE FOR A POLITICAL SOLUTION NOT PEACE!!

I respect erolz professionalism and I fully retract my comment relating to that fact.

Looking forward to chatting with all of you.

Thanks for staying and we look forward to your participation but as for the logo if you have any new ideas or the such we would love to see them and then do a poll to change it. Wink

Look forward to your future participation too Andy... I appreciate your retraction re: Erol, he didn't set this up to 'compete' at all, but to give those of us unnecessarily banned from the other forum a place to continue and develop our debates. I for one greatly appreciate what he's done with this forum, which is technically far superior to CF.

As for the dove motif, yes, there is technically peace in Cyprus given that no-one dies on a daily basis a la Iraq, however, I would refrain from saying that peace reigns in a place where 70-odd thousand heavily-armed troops face each other across a border maintained by United Nations peace-keeping forces... for me the dove symbolises not peace, but hope for future peace and reconciliation and is therefore most appropriate for this forum, where Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriots engage in dialogue every day and even (shock horror) reach agreement on some issues... a lesson to their politicians if ever I saw one.

However, if you don't like it, I suggest that you put forward an alternative... this forum is the product of its members and if the majority of members agree, I'm sure Erol would have no problem in changing the logo.

I think it (user owned site) makes the site 'different' from the others out there in an important way and am glad you agree.

I am still not sure I understand this argument. If I posted a joke in general chat you would comment on it but if I post it in jokes section you would not?
The international news section is not for the reporting of news. It is for members to discuss recent news articles that are not Cyprus related. I would not go there to find out what happend on sept 11th. I might well go there to find out whatthe other members of the forum thought about it, as I have come to know many of them and thus can view thier commentsd and views in that perspective (vs say the user comments on BBC siite).

For info some previous discussions on site logo

I personally think the whole 'top bar' logo included could do with an 'overhaul'. Please do feel free to come up with an alternative logo and suggest it to the members.

As I do you. I especially look forward to your input in the threads discussing the future direction of the site that I mentioned earlier in this thread, that are taking place atm.

Hi Andy and welcome again. Smile
I appreciate your honesty and I'm glad that the site has convinced you to stay. Looking forward to your participation.

sorry, but I still don't see whats bad about the sections. Its like, lets say in a library; it enables you to find topics the easy way instead of browsing through three pages of general chat threads.

As other members have pointed out you are very welcome to provide any suggestion that in your opinion would fit better.

Just one note about the RSS system

It will only show the forum sections that are available to guest members. At the moment that is all sections except the 'suggestions' section of the forum and I have only made that viewable by members only (and not guest) whilst we work out the 'test forum' stuff because I do not want that to be pisked up by non members and search engine robots until it is ready. Once that system goes live I will make the suggestions section of the site viewablt to guests again (and thus update via the RSS feed). Just so you know.

And since Cyprus-forum is bigger and better than talk-cyprus why should i stay at this cheap knock-off abomination that you've created...???[/quote]

Because you want to be here for reasons yet unbeknown to us.

Hi there,
Me new too but .... phew ... talking about getting to the point. Bit like saying, having just arrived at the party ... effing hell, what `orrible curtains, gotta change `em. And to boot ... cīmon the whole design is like summit out of ex-Yugoslavia!
Consrtuctive criticism my friend, surely welcomed, but with such a wallop??
Man, you`ve got tempo and gusto, I`ll give you that.
For me, colour is good, subdued and not at all obtrusive or "glossy". A faint touch of green is ok. Someone working hard there behind the scenes makin this happen.
Grab and carry in cyberspace? ... sure ... with your army of webmasters, inputers, marketers etc. Is this really what "dialogue" needs?
Just a few thoughts. Thanks nevertheless for dropping in. Stick around but don`t get stuck ;)

has movement about it without being too EU starified, although not without political direction. Are number of stars really important?

I don't like it... may as well just choose any of the many satellite photos of Cyprus from the web... it lacks originality

Just one note Andy the logo really needs to have the site name text on it and preferably the 'tag line'' as well. A logo that looks ok without text may not do so with text. Also I am afraid the proportions of the logo and actual pixel size has to exactly match the existing one if it is to be inserted in place of the existing one and not require a redesign of the whole top section of the forum. The current dimensions of the logo are 200*90 pixels.
