I'd like to see any strategic assessment you can come up with that actually envisages a slaughter of Turkish troops by the National Guard. Firstly, the NG has no air cover, which would leave it at the mercy of the Turkish airforce... result? 1991, road to Basra... aka 'the highway of death'... look it up. The other factors are just too long to list... the upshot being the total disintegration of the NG, death and destruction on a vast scale and Cypriot soldiers running for the hills. War is not the answer... for either community.
People who think like you are part of the past... noone in their right mind believes that war is good, especially those who went through it... you obviously have no experience of seeing death and destruction or you'd admonish yourself for thinking in this way. I suggest you reflect on your support for these nonsensical extremists and realise that their way is a dead end... literally. You wouldn't be a martyr... you'd just be a dead fool. |

Hello there Ladies and Gentlemen, Forum members
I am a new visitor to this forum and have been reading a few of the weekend`s posts to my horror.
There are several posters here who discuss a peaceful way forward for Cyprus and I am grateful for their insight, that I can learn something about the conflicts in the past.
No doubt there are still axes to grind on both sides. However, bloodshed and slaughter are surely not the vocabulary, let alone the wishes or aims the next generation who have lives to live.
No-one benefits from war. It is an ugly, atrocious thing. Please put your energies into making Cyprus a beautiful and unique island for everyone. There is a way forward without horrendous conflicts.
I suspect you are young, maybe still at college, so you might like to take the opportunity of apologising for your impulsiveness. I`m sure you didn`t really want to upset folks like that.
all the best to all

Hi eoka55 and welcome to the forum
Your views are misguided and will only be reason for thousands more mothers, wives, children etc. to lose an important figure from their lives and mourn them till they die, this is currently going on since the 60's in cyprus and we do not need any more, our island which was named the island of love by the goddess venus would be horrified at what us cypriots have done and turned it into the island of blood out of our petty desire to join the so called motherlands when all we ever needed was each other and nothing and certainly no one else. |

Eoka 55,
The vast majority of Greek Cypriots don't agree neither with you nor with the Neo Nazi Organisation called "XHRYSI AVGI/GOLDEN DAWN". I don't have much time to participate too much but for that little time that I have, I tell you this:
Get lost!
By the way, there are too many kaloi Tourkoi as there are Kaloi Ellines (Good Turks -Good Greeks) and none of them should be dead. |

Sadly, the number of people that think like this eoka guy, is on the increase. There is an upsearch of nationalism in the south, spearheaded by our VOLKAN, Simerini newspaper, Radio Proto and Sigma TV. Unfortunately, the people that should stand up to them keep quite, silently condoning their messages. Here is an example:
For the last month the nationalists have been campaigning for the annual military exercise called "Nikiforos" not to be postponed this year, like the last two years, when we were on the verge of solution. AKEL has kept quite and sure enough the government decided to go ahead with the exercise. Greece has informed us that she will not participate, sending a message that "look, you are alone against Turkey". Yet, the left, as it has done on all occasions, does not dare confront the extreme right but eventually sides with it. |

I am sorry to say so but yet another time your example is totally unrelated with the issue you are raising. Of course I will not get stuck again with your self-whipping inclinations, as they are already well known. The National Guard exercise has nothing to do with nationalism or with any pressure exercised by the said media group. The reasons have to do with the repositioning of the NG back to an operational level, which, ever since the A-plan appeared and all the talk relating to its annulment, it has entered into an all too profound stage of self-dissolvent and with discipline reaching bottom levels.
If you believe that the NG is not needed anymore and therefore the State should take steps to disintegrate it, then it is a different issue by itself and you better say so straight forward, as it will be regarded as just your political opinion. However, if you believe that it is still needed and has any role whatsoever to play, then I am sure you must agree that it has to be kept to a minimum operational capacity and the fact that it doesn’t show to be so at present should worry you, besides being also a tax payer.

I'd never thought I would live to read such an argument from Kifeas. I thought this was the prerogative of silly nationalists of the kind of Koulias (DIKO mp) who blamed the crashing of the NG training airplane on the Annan Plan!
However, if Kifeas did not like my example (and he dealt only with my example), am I correct to presume that he agrees with the essence of my argument? |

Take it easy Garbitsch, I think you misunderstood willi. I believe he was praising you for your comic retort to EOKA55 statements. |
