| If you attempt to boil down the more complex argument to the bones... then you've pretty much hit the nail on the head. |

Have a conversation between 3 people and exclude the rest of the forum becasue they can not catch up on all the news.
That is a great way to discuss things.
Why not help the rest of us catch up instead of leavin us to sit back in silence. |

Come on man, it's very easy to catch up with what's going on... just read any BBC article and it always has a historical summary towards the end of the article. |

| I agree many Europeans are racist and islamaphobic but lets not overlook one fact. France which is currently the second / third largest country in the EU is a net-contributor and with Germany it has been the motor behind the EU for a long time. It is one of the founding states of the EU and the biggest benefactor of the common agricultural fund. So why would she risk losing all of that by allowing Turkey in? |

| France may be a net contributor, but marginally, especially compared to Germany. France's contributions are somewhat tempered by the massive receipt of CAP funds that go to the bloated French agricultural industry. If these CAP payments were significantly reduced, then I might have some sympathy with the French position, but right now, I have none whatsoever. |

That is what the UK have been debating about, the bloated French agriculture handouts and for them to be massively reduced. |
