Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Delegates Visit To Turkish Quarter Of Limasol

A group of deputies from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Parliaement have paid a visit to Limasol for inspections at the local Turkish quarter there, and to listen to the problems of Turkish Cypriots living there.
The visit comes as the Greek Cypriot Administration comes under increased criticism for dragging its feet to prevent local Turkish Cypriot children to study in their own mother tongue.
The Greek Cypriot Administration’s policies aimed at preventing local Turkish Cypriot children receiving lessons in their own mother tongue is seen as a violation of the United Nations Declaration on Childrens’ Rights adopted in January 1990.

This policy means Turkish Cypriot children are being punished, despite all the constructive policies of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus seen in the case of a Greek Language school being opened in Karpaz for local Greek Cypriot children.

Apart from educational issues, Turkish Cypriots residing in-and- around Limassol are also being deprived of their religious rights with the local mosque that was opened in 2003 being kept locked and without an imam being assigned for it.

BRT, 28/09/2005, North Cyprus

I heard this on the news last night and it has really soured me, the Republic of Cyprus likes to shout about 'human rights' but it is guilty of denying the rights of many over and over again.

If the Republic of Cyprus claims that is the owner of all Cypriots they should start showing it by respecting and instaling all human rights to its citizens...I find it appaling that young kids can't get an education regardless of language...This is the next generation for crying out loud...

Absolutely and the real issue is that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has opened a Greek Cypriot school run by the Republic of Cyprus in the north and has also opened up some chuch's despite there being no resident Greek Cypriot in the area at the moment and yet despite the goodwill of the Turkish Cypriot goverment the Greek Cypriot goverment is playing silly buggers and denying the human rights of the Turkish Cypriot who ARE resident in the Republic of Cyprus, or in other words their own citizens.

I will also add that the Turkish Cypriot community in the north is VERY aware of this and then they wonder why the Turkish Cypriot community is suspicious of the Greek Cypriot community when they act in such a underhanded way and mistreat the Turkish Cypriot community that believed in them and choose to reside in the south.

Unfortunately the current Republic of Cyprus goverment with its constant violations of Turkish Cypriot human rights in such a sensitive time where we have the possibilities to make or break in negotiations when they start soon are ensuring no goodwill whatsoever from the Turkish Cypriot community, remember that the Turkish Cypriot community is an active one and we will fight for what we believe but at the moment under the current climate we DO NOT believe in the Republic of Cyprus as it shows us no true goodwill or respect.

Brother you continue posting propaganda articles which you seem to totally beleive and then want us to comment? What are these "deprivation of human rights" you talk about and I really wonder did you pay any attention to the numerous distortions included in the article?

Presumably here we are supposed to discuss on objective articles not spend our time correcting the various distortions of an article.

Lets see

Criticism?? From who? Any reliable sources?
It is not dragging it's feet in fact within 1.5 years it builted a brand new school, hired teachers, and THEN gave the possibility to any Turkish Cypriot parent to enrol his children there if he wishes, so that the children are taught in their mother tongue.

You may wonder in which language Turkish speaking children (most of them of KURDISH background, not really Turkish Cypriot children) were taught until that day. Well hear this: For each 5 there were was a full time Greek Cypriot Turkish speaking teacher. And by the way those children were very good at painting portraits of Ohcalan at their arts lessons.

The real meaning of "preventing" is here. The Greek Cypriots at Karpasia HAD a school of their own, builted by them. The occupation regime did not OPEN that school, in fact it had itr locked and did not allow the Greek Cypriots to operate it. The Pseudo-state did not open that school, it just finally after 31 years let it operate.

Deprived again? And who told you that the State, ANY state in the world is oblidged to hire priests or imams to operate a mosque. As for the local mosque being locked, perhaps you are not aware that the keys are held by the Turkish Cypriot muhtar of the area and he opens it up for any Turkish Cypriot or other muslim who want to pray. The same thing happens with churches when there is no local priest around. What would you prefer, to turn them into dancing halls or henneries like they do in the Pseudo, or just leave them open so that dogs and cats go in and shit?

In conclussion please post better articles in the future.Articles that we will not be wasting our time clearing up their distortions and propaganda.
