| Two thin lines, one red the other blue, intertwined like a cord pulled tight horizontally between the Green and Golden fields, identifying: in peace, under the sun, our people, our land. |

What is wrong with the current Flag.
I has no sign of religion, no ethnic colours, uniques as it is the only flag in the world that has the map on it. In addtion it represents peace, nice colours and in my opinion the nicest flag in the world
ps. i've heared it has been designed by a Turkish-Cypriots so I cannot understand why there is a need of changing the flag.
AS for the AP flag, yua |

My sentiments exactly. But you have to understand that over the years the Turkish Cypriots see it as the flag of the Greek Cypriots and due to past events can not identify with it anymore.

Thanks City, so now know for sure it has been design by a Turkish Cypriot
Well really like it and I wish it was accepted by everyone. It will be very sad if it is replaced by something like the flag in the Anan Plan! |

The problem is we Turkish Cypriots do not feel it represents us, it is a purely a Greek Cypriot flag and reminds us of our troubled past. This has nothing to do with who designed it or how pretty it is. If we are to build a new united Cyprus then surely the flag should by the symbol confirming this commitment and the one you have now has nothing to do with unity, just like I am sure you do not identify with Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus flag. |

What difference will it make if the flag is replaced? So far I haven't seen a better flag representing Cyprus. If it changes I hope the flag will be neutral which won't give symbolic meanings of bi-communality. |

Now that I think about it, we even have problems in agreing on a flag!!! Imagine how hard it will be to agree on History |

We are not supposed to agree - we are supposed to be able to accept a democratic decision.
(I would be great to have a flag as a symbol for reunification.) |

It appears that pretty much EVERYTHING in Cyprus doesn’t represent some of the Turkish Cypriots by their own admission, and that equates to “we don’t belong here”...
…and what should somebody do when they feel they don’t belong in a given country?
Make no mistake...
The flag of Cyprus is sacredly embedded in the hearts of all true Cypriots and any deviation from it is nothing short of anathema. |

We do not and have never been made to feel we belong to your Cyprus so we have our own to which we truly feel we belong because that is all the new generation know and love. The "Republic of Cyprus" for us is a Greek Cypriot state run by Greek Cypriots for Greek Cypriots, why is that so difficult to comprehend? |
