I repeat what I have said many times. I believe the current Republic of Cyprus flag is just perfect but unfortunately it's the Republic of Cyprus flag so I don't think it will be accepted as the new flag for a new Cyprus. Its a pity. But I actually must agree.
But then again, maybe it could be accepted due to the fact that it was designed by a Turkish Cypriot.... |

Possibly, but it's whether Turkish Cypriots now feel any ownership of the flag themselves, given that it's been presented as the flag of 'the other' for the past 30-40 years. Historically, it may have been a Turkish Cypriot proposal, but attachment is another thing entirely, remember that an entire generation has been brought up under the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus flag now... for them that's their flag. |

I would like the old flag to stay as it is, as if anything, it gives the country a sense of history, and that through all the troubles and hard times, they are still able to live side by side in one country(even if it took 30+years).
never mind, if we do want a new flag, what about the cyprus map, like the old one, and the olive leaves, one blue, one red, connected, positioned like the old flag, or intertwinned, to represent the communities working together?
(PS ...purple sounds fowl, sorry ) |
