| In Australia there is only one way lawyers are allowed to address the person on trial :The defendant.Noone would even think about addressing the suspect in any other way.Until recently, even in the media, you couldn't describe a suspect by their appearance (Of Asian,of aboriginal,or meditteranean etc).I say until recently because with the present terrorism scare and with the encouragement of the present so called Liberal government, phrases like "of middle eastern appearance" have started appearing in the media.but it would never be allowed in a court of law. |

Same in the UK. Can you imagine the outcry if a lawyer referred to a victim or assailant as 'the Black Jones' or 'the Paki Patel??? |

I was talking earlier to lawyer-friend of mine, about this particular issue of addressing and he said that the Judge is not supposed to allow such behavior by the lawyer of the defendant or anyone else. The layer is only allowed to address people with their name or their capacity only (i.e., defendant, plaintiff, witness, etc.) He suggested a complain is forwarded to the president of the disciplinary board of the judicial council, reporting the judge for her negligence to put the lawyer in order and that the board will take measures against her. |

Do you (or your laywer friend) know who can make such a complaint? Can I register such a complaint? Could I instruct a Republic of Cyprus lawyer to make it? Any info would be most appreciated. |

Anyone can do it by sending a letter to the disciplinary board. A complain can also be made to the ombudsman but I believe this can only be made by the affected person, although i am not sure 100%. |

Some links in relation to judicial /legal matters.
http://www.leginetcy.com
http://www.cyprusbarassociation.org/eng/index_en.php
List of Supreme Court numbers and e-mails.
http://www.cyprusbarassociation.org/eng/8-2new.htm
They will be able to give you more information.
President of the Supreme Court.
president@sc.judicial.gov.cy
Registrar of the supreme court.
chief.reg@sc.judicial.gov.cy
I will also send an e-mail and or call them tomorrow to ask for more information on how to conduct the Disciplinary board. However, let’s verify the exact facts first and not base everything from how a newspaper describes them. I believe we need to conduct the reporter of the newspaper first and verify what and how is being said. We do not know for example whether the judge for sure didn’t correct the lawyer but the newspaper’s reporter neglected mentioning it. |

I think Kifeas is 100% correct here. Hate to end up with egg in the face if the facts are not 100% correct. |
