Cant you see that the recognition and normalisation of relations the opening of ports and diplomatic representation, the "Republic of Cyprus" will then pursue the removal of troops from our recognized sovereign land, remove settlers, etc etc then Turkish Cypriots will be invited to go back to 1960 agreements only if the accept amendments to veto rights and government representation, return of land etc etc.
So to put it more simply Papdop is using EU leverage to move the issue away from the UN for obvious reasons to obtain maximum demands for Greek Cypriots...is this the EU solution??

Recognised sovereign land? Are you joking? Your pariah state based on theft! Obviously Cyprus is putting the pressure on Turkey to abandon the long held goal of partition. You cannot blame them for douing this.

VP, what you are saying is simply speculation and rumourmongering. I bet you if the Turkish Cypriot's demanded their return to the 1960 constitution the international community would back you 100%! But as your leadership does not see the benfits of doing this and their greed in wanting to keep what Turkey so generously took from us and gave to you, then I do not see that happening unless the circumstances are such that it becomes attractive to do so.

Mikkie what ever the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is, we are here to stay until we find a solution so deal with it...
All you have to do is wait and see. what I say will unfold in front of your eyes its called a process of osmosis. Why negotiate in good faith or compromise when you feel you will get what you want over time through the EU.
The whole Cyprus issue is being placed in the fridge for the next 10 to 20 years by the Greek Cypriots, well done, is this the EU solution you were after??

Brother,

As a Turkish Cypriot that wants unification ( I assume that you do!) you should be VERY worried about the stance that Turkey is taking.

This is deception on a grand scale. It is not only deception of the Greek Cypriots who want unification it is also a deception of the Turkish Cypriot's who were being led to believe that they were being offered unification under a federal structure. Whether the US/UK have been deceived also or if they are complicit in this I don't know. One thing is for sure - the Cypriots (Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot) are being taken for a ride.

Clearly, Erdogans statements and ultimatum to Papadopoulos shows that Turkish policy is geared towards a two state solution - partition. The Greek Cypriots will never accept this. We will never capitulate in the manner that Turkey wishes - to effect a 2 state solution without paying a price.

If the Turkish Cypriots wish to keep the Cypriot label they should also never accept this. In my view our common enemy is Turkey!

As a cypriot who wants unification i think the stance being taken by Tassos on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus should be worrying us all at the moment, his insistance to take the negotiations away from the UN and to the EU is imo a cunning ploy to keep the partition firmly in place as he knows that the EU would be biased to any solution in his favour and the Turkish Cypriot would not stomach this and hence no progress.

I think mikkie our common enemy is Tassos first then all the rest can be handled in time, even the mighty Turkey.

I don't understand where you get this from Brother. Where has he insisted that the EU takes on the negotiations instaed of the UN? If you read the counterdeclaration to Turkey, it clearly states that the EU will continue to support the good offices mission of the UN for the resolution of the problem. What Tassos wants is for the EU to get involved so as to support the efforts of the UN, not to take over from it.

What is worrying brother, is Erdogan making statements about a 2 state solution, when you have Mr Talat saying he wants unification. This is all very contradictory and it probably shows that Turkey is in some dissaray as to how to handle the situation. I'm afraid this will only get harder for Turkey as time goes on because Cyprus will always be there at every turn.

Mikkie this morning tassos refused the counter declaration despite all other members acceptance on it,

Quote:

According to diplomatic sources the Tassos Papadopoulos administration of Greek Cyprus was particularly annoyed with the EU's reaffirmed support for U.N. peacemaking efforts towards Cyprus and wanted to see changes in the text that would give the EU more involvement on the island.

Why is he so insistant on this unless the underlying agenda for a biased solution in his favour.

Erdogan's statements mean nothing unless Talat supports them and then in turn the Turkish Cypriot community which won't , are you not worried that tassos is so insistant in going against all EU members in his little diplomatic war with Turkey rather than concentrating on the solution of cyprus with talat.

Brother,

I think you place too much faith in what the Turkish press says!

The last paragraph of the countrstatement, clearly states that the EU will continue to support the UN in reaching a settlement on the island.

He has not refused it. He simply didn't endorse it last night as he was travelling from the US. I believe that the final text will be put to COREPER today for acceptance.

As for Talat, why isn't he disagreeing with Erdogan regarding his two state solution ultimatum to Papadopoulos? Where are those Turkish Cypriots that want unification making protestations about this? I hear none!

Mikkie the same could be said for the Greek Cypriot that want unity, i hear none and have never heard any either unlike the Turkish Cypriot who went against their veteran leader denktas.

As for talat like tassos he tries not to get into a slagging off match with the so-called mother land premiers for obvious reasons but you know that.

There at every turn demanding what? The start of negotiations for a sttlement based on BBF? They could have had for ages now. Or will they be there at every turn demanding recognition without a settlement, whilst doing nothing to even get a new process to find one started?

Just what is the Republic of Cyprus aim? If it is to agree a (fair) settlment based on BBF why has it not made clear it's proposals for this? So far all I see is it's efforts have only been to try and secure recognition without a settlement or nay obligation to find a settlement or any effort to start settelment talks.

The UN has been given a detailed list of our concerns regarding the Annan plan as tabled at the referenda. It is up to SG to have the balls to tell Turkey to take account of our concerns if an agreed solution is to come about.
