| Practically the same Birkibrisli, the same report was sent to both papers. Politis merely edited it for space because it went first page. |

Thank you,Bananiot, for that explanation.I was waiting for the Politis article to appear in translation. You,I believe, were amongst those helping out at the cemetery. You guys probably cringe when you read the enthusiastic support for this project from those of us who live abroad.
Here where I live in the Blue Mountains near Sydney,I often do volunteer work as bush regenarator.Which essentially involves clearing weeds which invaded the bushland areas. So I know it is hard work and not a picnic.Well done, once again, mate. And it is good to see the media is picking up on something positive for a change. |

Apparently we got a mention on a German newsletter about North Cyprus (info@nordzypern-online.de), that someone sent to me. I copy the relevant section below in the hope that one of our German speaking members might translate it for me (City?)

ok, here you go:
Cemetaries are newly maintained
Media reports from the turkish-cypriot weekly newspaper Cyprus Today report that in Girne (Kyrenia) a concerted action from Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots took place, in which the greek cemetery of the town has been cleaned and restored. The idea came from the “island-Turk” (remark: I would actually say that means Turkish Cypriot) Erol Zyia, which noticed at a funeral, that the adjoining once greek cemetery was in a bad condition.
The actions to maintain greek cemeteries in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus shall not be isolated cases.
Erol Zyia is therefore seeking support (eroz@cream.org) MISTAKE ??.
Also in south Cyprus a Turkish cemetery has been restored. In Lefkara, a once mixed village, which the turks left in 1974, under UN-oversight a similar project has taken place. |

Let's see, we have all sorts of Turks now even island Turks. Now if we manage to put a Turk into space we'll have a "Space Turk" as well. |

:D Come on guys, if I would translate it proper proper, which I did not during my office hours, it would actually translate to a "turk, living/residing on the island". Thats why I wrote it shall probably mean Turkish Cypriot, as usually people here do not distinguish the very fine differences in how they refer to someone in a country they do not know all the little tiny details about.....
(like we usually refer to british people colloquial only as english - and not welsh, english, irish, scottish - get my point?)

that came to my mind as well.... |
