Its getting better all the time. Alithia has today published the article in full on page 46 and calls for anyone that can help to be there on Sunday October the 9th. Her is a rough translation:
"In his first visit to the grave of his dear little girl in occupied Kyrenia, Xanthos Hadjichristos came across a huge surprise. His 5 year old girl died back in 1971 from leukaemia and was rested in the Greek cemetery adjoining the British one. After the events of 1974 Xanthos went to live in England and has not visited the grave since.
Last Sunday, a group of Greek and Turkish Cypriots and some British residents, embarked on the hard and tedious job of cleaning the cemetery which bears the marks of time and neglect. The work started from the northernmost part and coincidentally the first grave to be cleaned up of weeds and debris of all sort was the grave of little Anita. A while later and when the workers had moved to other graves, an aging man appeared with some flowers in his hands, looking for a grave. That was Xanthos and he was very moved to discover that the grave of little Anita stood out in the whole of the cemetery. Our Turkish Cypriot friends called the happening a small miracle and Xanthos thanked all concerned for the good job they had done.
The group will continue the cleaning of the cemetery and work is scheduled for the second Sunday of every month. All re welcome to be part of this noble cause".
P.S. The web site was given but unfortunately it received no mention. Better luck next time. |

| Congratulations, once again, Erol. I always believe that a lot of good things can be done for Cyprus and peace without getting into politics. I'm glad to see that somebody not only believes in the same idea but actually implements it in such a wonderful way. |

Erol, I would like to express my sincere apologies again that I couldn't make it to Girne on that date, even though I was on the island!
But due to the reason I explained over the phone, it was just not possible.
However it seems you had enough participants to achieve a wonderfull result! The story about that man, looking for the little ones grave is just amazing! You are right just by that incident the whole action was worth it!
I hope I can join you all another time. |

I am a bit confused. Was the Politis article same as the Alithia article?
Are these papers stablemates or something?
Congratulations to Erol and all those involved. As I said in another post,a small step for a few people, but a huge leap for Cypriots.Keep up the good work, everyone.I promise to join you one Sunday, when I can get myself to Cyprus. |

I suggest that Bro buys a flat-eric teddy and sends it to you and I'll do the same with a canned moose... that way we can be there in spirit... if that isn't crass when talking about a cemetery... hmmm... |
never mind sending in one for me. |
