If by 'we' you mean those that have signed the petition then fine.
If by 'we' you mean 'cypriots' or those of us that use this forum then I am afraid that things are not so simple.
For me as a Turkish Cypriot the cyprus problem is not just about the events of 74 and its aftermath and the idea that just reversing the results of 74 onwards 'solves' the problem is not one that I can support.
I want a unifed Cyprus, but I can not support the idea that all that is needed to achieve that goal is for Turkish troops to leave. We have to have an agreement - to the issues that pertained BEFORE 74 and the arrival of Turkish troops in Cyprus AS WELL as to those caused by 74 and their presence since. I do not want Turkish troops to simply leave before we have such an agreement I am afraid. |

It is quite obvious that the Turkish troops will only leave Cyprus after an agreement has been reached. In 2004, those that voted against the plan of the UN General Secretary, in practice voted for the Turkish troops to remain in Cyprus. Papadopoulos fooled many people by telling us that once we were full members of the EU we could get a much better deal. "Why rush into an agreement", he kept repeating, "when in one week's time we can get a European solution"?
It was hard to refute such a clearly populist stand at the time, especially when all rejectionists went into top gear, daemonising the plan.
Now, I wonder, can we get a better plan? Will Morphou be given to us? Furthermore, do we still want solution? |

i meant those who signed the petition by that...
i know that peace wont come if the army goes... but at least we as turkish cypriots will be able to decide about the agreement, not turkey...
also you should check out the list in the site... which contains how Turkey govern our government and call it as it's ours... |

taking everything will be better... because i know that Turkey will still be giving orders to our government and it will have lower quality than yours... and for that reason i will live in south... |

| I was only being pragmatic my friend. Wishful thinking will not solve our problem. What you are contemplating is the worst scenario which will leave Cyprus permanently divided with a disputed border with Turkey and the north part flooded with settlers. Cyprus will have no future for any of us if it came to this. |

I actually want our island to be all united without any borders, troops, settlers... and greek cypriots or cypriots governing it...

| We all want this, but this is the wishful thinking I was talking about. I also think that the south has no future with a divided island. |

none of us have a future with the island torn in two.
by definition we will be "Greeks" and "Turks" but Cyprus will be no more. this is the disgrace of so many interlocutors by so many different names.
it is true, the Problem does not begin in 1974, but the issue changed when by an illegal act Turkey intervened occupying by force this land, displacing the many, to effect change which threatens for the first time in thousands of years its living patrimony, we as this island's dwellers, Cypriots no more.
for those who rue the day, i say, be happy; think: there is no better opportunity for change, amongst ourselves, within ourselves, to cast off fear for an end to subjugation, in all senses of the words, toward a representation which demonstrates our commitment to the Human quality in all of us, Grace.
...that is what Turkey is looking for to Free us from their Army"s embrace; Good Government.

...the internationa community has not tried to force Turkey out because the consequence would be more loss of life and mayhem. Yes, the occupation by Turkey's Army is illegal, and to deny this is to deny the Basic Human Rights of Cypriots. If you are a "Turk" on the other hand, then the subjugation is meaningless, whether you prefer to call yourself Cypriot Turk or a Turkish Cypriot.
Basing the enmity on ethnicity is racist. there exists intolerance, this is our enemy. for those who are content with subjugation this thinking is mute. |
