Sorry but I don't buy this argument. When you are famous, you have to watch what you say. This is the price to pay for being famous.
As we all know "Turks out of Cyprus" can mean "Turkish troops out of Cyprus" or it can actually mean "Turks out of Cyprus" including Turkish Cypriots.
Maybe Marcos did not mean that way but he was chanting along with a group that uses "Hellas Kypros Enosis" as a slogan. So it is believable that this group actually means "Turks out of Cyprus" including Turkish Cypriots.
Maybe it's the group mentality that made him chant along but regardless, when you're famous, you have to be careful about what you say. If you are not, then people will form their opinions about you with their interpretation of what you meant. This is what atcanews did and it's understandable. |

Sorry...this is my first post after doing some reading about this fiasco and is in need of some light on the situation. I found this post to be the most hilarious of all! Truth said...truth shall be told!
Firstly, I am not a Turk and I take all sides stories before making judjement on anyone.
Secondly, I found your comments to be somewhat partizan to the actual facts about what the Turk's have done when they took over 40% of the island. The Turks wouldn't go on killing people willy nilly for no reason and if you look at history you may see that the Ottoman's took over allot of lands (as well as Greece) for a very good reason. The world in those times were being overrun by the Christian Crusades banked by the evil masons. These murderers butchered everyone non-Xian in the Holy Lands. They were doing this in every lands they tried to take. The Muslim's at that time saw this as a threat and had to stop this, so this is why the Turk's did what they did. So then there was over 500 yrs of rule with the West living in the medeivel ages dwelling in their own faeces. Just look at the history from other perspectives and not just the crap you hear on Zionist FOX and CNN. They're full of lies and they twist the truth.
Now, the claim that Turk's killed 1,000,000 people is unsupported and the deaths are mostly from armed combatants at the time. I hear allot of crap spewing from the Armenians/Greeks and Kurds and if the Turk's DID massacre innocent people then they should show proof of this. I personally witnessed the historical records of the Armenian history archives as well as the Turkish ones and quite frankly, I saw no mass massacres. Not to say that the Turk's were angels by any means. No one is. But the amount of propaganda fueled by your own people is becoming a farce! The Armenian's lost a war (just like the Greek's), claimed the Turk's killed em all and then they sooked...simple as that. The Turk's openly showed their historical archives of the times and showed the populations at the time as well as the war efforts to keep their enemies at bay. The Armenian's didn't! That was the clincher and even today the UN nor the US can find any massacres committed by Turkey nor the Ottoman Turk's at that supposed time. Now you wanna know what the Armenian's did to the Azeri's just a few decades ago in their war? Well...now you have a case if they wanna go down that avenue. They massacred over 2000 villagers in the middle of the night and took over a city which belonged to the Azeri's. That's a massacre. Wanna know what the evil Israeli's are doing to those Palestinian's every single day? That's a massacre. Wanna know what the Chinese and the Russian's are doing? I can go on.
The Greeks are no better. You think the Greek's didn't kill people in the wars against the Turk's in the past? Please...gimme a break! You people also have to answer for allot of things you did against the Turks as well as many other ethnicities you held lands in.
As for the reasons why the Turk's took over 40% of Cyprus? Well, I was around in those days and I personally spoke to both Turkish and Greek Cypriots to get the facts from both sides. The Greeks claim that land was theirs...and the Turk's came and took it off them. Well, wars are won and lost and if you claim those lands as yours then you better expect the "previous" owners to make the same claim. It's everyone's lands! I hate it when people claim this and that land as theirs. This will be erradicated in the future when the world becomes one race. Hopefully...but I do believe nationalism is a curse.
The stories I was getting from both sides were pretty different but looking at both stories I find the Turkish invasion justifiable. Why? The Turkish Cypriots were being killed and the Greek side were trying to get them all out of the island. That's called ethnic cleansing people! These people lived peacefully for hundreds of years untill one or two Greek nationalist started the propaganda again. This led you Greeks into a frenzy and started killing many many Turk's in order to claim "ethnicity" to your pissy little island. Take the words from both sides and you see the picture. I have many Greek and Turkish friends and the Turkish Cypriots (and I mean many of them) had claims of their families being burnt alive and their homes set on fire. Sounds allot like the Israeli conflict doesn't it? hmmmm. Well you think the Turks are gonna just take that? Of course you'd go in and protect them. That's why they didn't listen to those Pommy ,orons nor anyone else. They weren't helping with the matter were they. Afterall, they hated the Turks.
It took the Turks just 1 day to take over that part of the island. You think they couldn't have taken over the whole island? Of course they could've but NO they left most of it to the Greeks so that those attrocities never occurred again. Big mistake...they should have taken over the whole island. The Turks had every right to take it over and I for one congratulate justice when justice is served against the opressors.
Now this pig of a tennis player is spewing racist remarks again and you people are lapping it up.
Another thing...if you really wanted peace like the Turks do...then your Greek Cypriot patriots should have voted "YES" to a united CYPRUS. They didn't did they? But the Turkish side did. Now who's being racist here hey? Cyprus for the Greeks is what I can see chanted between the lines, then you people go on saying you're not Greek? Pleaseeeee...save me the BS.

I didnt say "Ellas Kypros Enosis" is equal to "Turkish Cypriots out of Cyprus". If a group uses "Ellas Kypros Enosis" as a slogan, especially after witnessing how much tragedy Enosis caused for this island and how strongly Turkish Cypriots opppose to it, I said it's conceivable that the same group might want Turkish Cypriots out of Cyprus when they say "Turks out of Cyprus". I never used this or anything else as an excuse to keep "Greeks" (and by that I assume you meant Greek Cypriots) out of northern Cyprus. |

What depresses me way more than the video itself is this idea that there is no valid reason why Turkish Cypriot should be upset at this kind of behavior from Baghdatis. He could have said / done nothing politically sensitive. He could have said / done something political that promoted cross community reconciliation and rapprochement. Instead he was filmed chanting partisan slogans at a Hellenic organisation. Sad and disappointing imo but not really a massive deal. However what to me is sadder and more disappointing is this idea that Turkish Cypriot should not care or be sad or disappointed at such acts and choices by a high profile Cypriot sportsperson and that if we do express such sentiments we are 'pathetic'. |

I'm glad you can see that no one are angels, including the Greeks.
That said, the 1 million people claimed killed were mostly combatants. When they lose a war, they cry foul.
Better ask what the Armenians , Pontians, Greeks, Kurds, Austrians, Bulgarians were doing to Turk's and Muslim's in those days hey? Or will you keep trying to justify it? Who's hoping? You're concealing the truth and the truth is there in al its glory. Get a grip...no one are angels...especially the Greeks.

And did you ever try to understand why famous people have scandals for things that if ordinary people do it would be normal, such as drinking, a driving offense etc. Because some people try to create a story so as to cause some sort of problem. ATCAnews in this case tried to make a world famous and respected Greek Cypriot figure to be disliked by manipulating what he actually said and lead every one to false assumptions. Aim, 'ALL GREEKS ARE RACIST'. As for the media... it is a very good story to sell, it was front page of the Australian Herald Sun newspaper.

About being careful when you are famous , that is a personal thing other might care more about what the public has to say, others might care less. Generally speaking the people who are very careful about their image are those who have low self esteem, and those who don't care are "Laikoi" - like the ordinary people that you would find in the street but it happened to be famous.
About the comment "enosis brought a lot of misery to Cyprus" I wonder mete how can an ideology that was never implemented bring misery!!! Greek of Cyprus wanted Enosis most Turks of Cyprus opposed and many of you wanted Taksim. Taksim was implemented and it did and still brings a lot of misery to Cyprus. Taksim has failed for the last 33years, now can we agree to have Enosis for another 33 years to test whether it will bring misery to Cyprus or not? |

We are not saying that Turks didn't have any reason to occupy 37% of Cyprus. Just like the Americans in Iraq, the Turks had very good reasons to invade Cyprus, namely to satisfy their expansionist policiy. Now it is Iraq, next will be Thrace and the Aegean islands

Did you see anyone here to claim that Greeks didn't kill people in wars against the Turks...not just in wars but in Cyprus there were innocent Turks who got killed by Greek fascist paramilitary groups before 74. Crimes on humanity are not justifiable, please don't argue that 74 is justifiable because you did that and so on.
