Yes boys we will have our own EURO soon!
YES! but what image do you think we should have on it?
And don't say two lamb soulvas on a BBQ!
I am serious!
Lets workout something that will please all Cypriots for a change and not our motherland!
We can make up a list and also vote on it!
1: My first suggestion would be the Mouflon if there are any left and haven't been eaten!
2: My second would be the TEKE in Larnaca!
3: Chrotikia (9000years of history):
4: Limassol Castle where Richard the Lion hearted got married! (Poor bloke!)
5: A Naked Aphrodite! The goddess of LOVE! Yeah Baby Yeah!
cheers!
PS I hope they DON'T put any Political leaders! |

| I don't get why when there are 8 coins they only put three different images. I was hoping that Aphrotite was going to be one of them but unfortunately isn't. |

A donkey would be good as a design for the one coin. |

As a numismatist and philatelist (although not a notaphilist - paper money is too unwieldy) ...
Because these things are always compromises; I suppose that 3 designs (probably from a long list worked to death, and beyond, by a committee) are "safer" then 8 designs.
Compare the soon-to-be-released new Bank of Scotland banknotes with the euro notes, whose designs were so watered down the "bridges" shown on them are pure invention - they don't exist! (For fear of arousing national sentiment otherwise).
I came across Admirable Design, which shows about 50 rejected euro-note designs, most of which were much more interesting than the eventual design. |

| I was thinking of Teke, ...but a donkey if not on a coin, as a national symbol. |

two guys sitting on straw chairs spinning the bbq skewer as they drink beer.
Souvla. - The national symbol.
Peace through feast. - The national slogan.
Where there is souvla, there the Cypriot can be found. - The national motto.
For when the call of souvla is sounded, every citizen is obliged to pick up fork and knife to honor that call. - Oath to the Cypriot 'armed' forces.
"The souvla turns". - Cypriot saying equivalent to "Life goes on."
To sprinkle with beer or not to sprinkle with beer. - Cypriot philosophical postulation on the meaning of life.
"For even though you may take our freedom, you can never take our souvla!" - Famous saying of a cornered Cypriot rebel.
"I will souvlisi you!" - Common Cypriot death threat.
"Partake from this bread, for it is the body of Christ, and partake from this wine for it is the blood of Christ. But above all else partake from this souvla for it is the spirit of Christ! For even though it is not written in the bible explicitly, we all know what God did on the seventh day.. he descended to Cyprus to make souvla! Honor the word of God!" - creed of the autocephalus Orthodox Church of Cyprus |
