The most telling piece of this article were these two paragraphs:
| Quote: |
We had the undignified row of both sides saying ‘it was my idea first, the delays were all your fault’ slung with dismal monotony across the Green Line; and then the absurdity of both sides crowing that their contribution proved just how full of good will they were.
All this shows is that neither side cares two hoots about reunification and rapprochement – if they did they could open dozens of crossings from north to south of the Green Line. All they care about is scoring points against each other in a pathetic game of tit-for-tat. I suppose we should be grateful that something positive has come out of so much bad will. |
Ne'er a truer word spoken... politicians on both sides have shown their true colours on this issue. |

What they have shown is how immature they are and how incapable they are in working togethar for a common goal to benefit all cypriots, this makes me so angry. |

why are they such idiots? cyprus needs a good sorting out, and stop this ridiculous half-job of a governemtn they seem to be.
This 'building relations' between the communties is just a way for politians to score points against each other, not for the real reasons.
Just likei nour other topic, we need to start some kind of ball rolling, for a joint curriculum for both communities. |

| It's called vested interests Dhavlos... politics in Cyprus has become almost comfortable with the Cyprob as the central (and sometimes only) issue... it very conveniently allows politicians on both sides to bury other issues under the carpet when it comes to election time - including their own incompetence, corruption and nepotism. Solve the Cyprob and they would actually come under the scrutiny they deserve... which I'm sure would frighten many of them out of politics. |

ah, well, you are the 'knowledge' on the issue, especially after studying it!
it annoys me, the whole thing, politicains looking out for themselves, and not working for the greater good.
One day it'll change...one day... |

| Does anyone know why the Greek side said the infrastructure would take months and all of a sudden, it was completed? |

The road that will connect the two checkpoints would be constructed (resurfaced and extended) using EU funds that apparently takes for ever. The checkpoints, on the other hand, were to be constructed by the two communities, but the Greek Cypriot side had to expropriate land for that which also takes time (the Turkish Cypriot side just built something on Greek Cypriot land). Instead they decided to put up some temporary thingy just to make sure that we're not blamed for not opening the crossing... |
