erol i dont think there is anything wrong with you being the sole administrator of this forum. you brought it to life and if anyone has a problem with that or wants to question the balance of opinions here then thats their problem.
also thanks for the moderator option. i would gladly help assuming there can remain a balance (ie moderating extreme posts and perhaps splitting off topic posts?)
however you make the rules and you decided. i could be of convenience in that sense that i am in a 8-10 hour time difference from europe but thats about it |

I do not want this to be my forum. I want the members to feel like it is their forum. That they have a real and effective say in how it is run and the decisions that are made on it. I also want it to not just claim to be a 'netural' place where Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot can freely discuss Cyprus, but as far as possible to actually BE a neutral place. I also want to be free to contribute openly and honestly as a normal member as well. As sole admin the site looses it's 'legitimacy' as a 'bi-communal' forum to some degree as I see it. Also as a 'sole' admin I do not feel as free to particpate as a member as well, for if I get angry and upset or depressed there is no 'check or balance' on my reaction as an admin.
I will soon run some polls - 'do you want a joint Greek Cypriot admin on the forum-yes or no' and similar on moderators and if there is more yes than no's I will proceed with votes on possible candidates. |

Erol, dont get to worked up about mods. At the moment, it seems to be under control. If people have a problem with someone, then surely if you get sufficient complains, then you can block them?
- just a thought, i know there wre problems with the other forum when people came back as someone else, and started over again....could you block them from their computer/ISP address or something? |

I do not want to be the sole administrator of the forum. I would like it ideally to have 2 joint and equal administrators. Myself as one and a Greek Cypriot as co administrator. I believe this is necessary to protect the balance of the forum into the future. Whilst I might strive to as balanced as I can in decision about the forum I am a Turkish Cypriot and having a joint Greek Cypriot admin would help restrict and balance any unilateral decisions I might make conscious or unconscious that are in fact biased towards Turkish Cypriot.
The role of this co administrator would not actually require any day to day work as such. The role principally would be to act as a check and balance against myself should I start to loose my objectivity, create a clear impression and reality that the site is bi-communal at all it's levels and be a point of contact for any Greek Cypriot member who feels they have been treated unfairly and would not get a fair hearing from myself as a Turkish Cypriot. |
Erol, your words above are wise and prove that your intent in setting up this forum was honest and genuine. Deciding to "share power" when no one is forcing you to, simply out of the principle that "power needs checks and balances" is laudable indeed. I fully agree with your reasoning.

If the forum members feel that I could help in such a capacity, then I would gladly accept it. I probably would not be appropriate as a moderator, given that I cannot guarantee my daily presence here, but as co-Admin who would intervene in case a serious dispute develops, I don't see a problem. |

| alexandros has my full support as well. also, erol, dont forget to include the "either way" option on your poll (instead of just yes and no) |

Not sure what you mean Magik
The poll I am about to run was going to contain the following options
"I do not think the site should have a second admin at all."
"I think the site should have a second Admin and find Alexandros Lordos an acceptable candiate for this role."
"I think the site should have a second Admin but do not consider Alexandros Lordos an acceptable candiate for this role."
If option 1 gets the most votes we stay with a single mod.
If option 2 gets the most votes Alexandros becomes the joint admin
If option 3 gets the most votes we try and find an alternative admin that meets the criteria (someone I trust who is Greek Cypriot)
I shoulf just point out that the alternative 'first choice' candidates for this role (MicAtCyp and Kifeas) felt unable to accept the role should the members accept them.
Does that look ok for the a vote on the admin issue? |

| That vote looks good... I'm a little worried that we're heading for a Makarios-esque single candidate vote, but I'd be perfectly satisfied with Alex L. |

Yes it would have been better to have more than one candidate but that was lawys going to be tricky given the 'sensativites' of the role and the need for me to be very sure about any candidates in terms of the potential damage a rogue admin could do. Things should be much more 'open' as fars as moderators (if we decide to have them) go.
Having said that I personally do not think we could have a better sole candidate for the role than Alexandros. I am extremely greatful that he is willing to take it on as both the creator of the forum (from a technical persepctive) and as a normal member. |
