Not joining NATO from the start was really retarded.

It would have made things much simpler. Total Independance for a tiny rock blows. This is why Cyprus is joining everything it can these days. For example Cyprus has become a member of the Francophone nations how hilarious! This was the only reason wwe joined Maybe we should join the Arab league and OPEC next LOL.

Or better still... the League of Islamic Nations, s300? Smile

s300, it's good we are in the francophonie, it is always a pleasure finding people in Cyprus who enjoy expressing themselves in French, it is a part of our heritage, and a part of my childhood.

Mr Mak is a contemporary of some of the great revolutionaries (and leaders) of his age. Striking the balance, (like France), served his interest well, from both the benefits which came with exchange.

Today, the battle is the same. The supremacy of this island is a question which has not been resolved. Mankind, through the UN, gave us our freedom to be Cypriots and to sustain this culture which is so old, because this island can belong to no one else.

We remain the unsinkable aircraft carrier, a threat if it is in the hand of any particular, perhaps a boon with the aircraft (and ships) of many, actively serving against disaster with the UN which has HQ's here), while in our defense, on guard as {EU} NATO members. As such, the volunteers to our armed forces will include many young recruits from either community, because of its opportunities for education and travel, in fufilling these roles.

In an ideal world there are no soldiers, but the threat from interlocutors remains.

Imagine... the British flip their lease to NATO... keeping their radar and planes most modern at less cost. Turkey withdraws from Cyprus, while it can provide to NATO the forces which it needs on the island, for its own sense of security. For the record NATO has nukes, and the question is can we stop them from drilling holes in our mountains...or, is this not a problem?
