I have story about Androlikou as well and a few pictures but I don't know how to upload them in this threat.
Anyway in August 2005 myself, my girlfriend and my best friend Nicolas were having a road trip around Cyprus. After two days of travelling on the South-west coast of Cyprus we set our tents at Polis Chrysochou camping site. The day before we went to Avakas Gorge which was amazing and for this reason we decided to go and try find Androlikou Gorge. According to our map the Gorge was just before the entrance of the village. We were serching for the Gorge through the gravel roads but we couldn't find it, so we decided to go to the village and ask. When we arrived at the village we couldn't see anybody, the village seemed like a goast town. Almost all houses were partly destroyed and when my girlfriend tryed to look inside one of them she scream aaa... it was a goat that gave her a fright. After spending few minutes in the village we thought that no one was living there apart of the goats. On the way out we saw some people making constructions on their houses, we spoke to them and asked them to give us directions. While talking we could recognise an accent so we asked them where they were from and they told us they were Turkish Cypriots. Me and my friend were excited to see Turkish Cypriots taking initiative to rebuild their houses. We had a small conversation and asked them for directions to 'farangi tou Androlikou' Well they didn't know what farangi was so how to you try to explain to someone who doesn't know what 'farangi' is! Greek and english didn't work so we tried sign language but unfortunately it didn't work either. So we continued our trip in the Troodos mountains.
Imagine if one of those men is the current muhtaris! |

There are such abandoned villages in Bulgaria as well. Most of their inhabitants left when Todor Zhivkov expelled 350,000 Turks in 1985, and then later as a result of urbanization.
In the village my mom comes from there are around 30 houses and only 3 or 4 are inhabited mostly by very old people. When I was a kid, tt was a lot of fun to play hide and seek in the empty houses. Fortunately we did not come accross any goats inside, 
As Bulgaria is about to enter the EU next year, many Brits are beginning to buy the land cheaply and settle in the area.. |

I meant it metaphorically 'Alexios'.
Instead of pretending to be a Greek when you have lost all sense of identity, why don't you just change your name to Mustafa and be over and done with it? |
