i ve heard this story yesterday for the first time.
it happened in the sixties , so in case i make any "fact" mistakes , anyone who knows the story better , please correct me.
there are other discusting crimes that took place in cyp, but they were mostly from sick individuals. the amazing thing about this one , is that a whole village apparently participated.
the story goes like this. i girl from a village of paphos (inia) was used... in the area of famagusta. in short she was used as prostitute from the people in the area, and apparently a number of local people used that opportunity.
at some point family members (or co - villagers) came and took her back to the village. some time later, the pimp himself (i believe) decided to take the 4-5 hours ride with the car and go and see what happened to the girl. he took with him a friend, and a 15 year old boy.
when they reached the village, they were surrounded , tortured (sexually and otherwise) and cut to pieces!!! 
apparently most of the village took part in the "fun"!!!
......
these collective crimes never seaze to amaze me. normal people , perhaps even one of our grandparents, decided one day to turn themselves into animals. then the whole thing remains as a secret , nobody talks about it anyomre, while everyone knows what happened...or even participated. next morning most probably they woke up, enjoyed their cypriot coffee at the local coffee shop , went to work , on sunday they went to the church, and loved their children and their families! . i always wonder if those people received any pleasure at the point of their action , and if they ever later on felt any trace of guilt!!

a Greek Cypriot director made a film out of this story. anyone knows the exact name of the film ? |

Crimes like this happen in Turkey every other day and not once every 40 years, but the other way around. Instead of the "pimp," the family "takes care" of the female family member. |

why the reply should always be what happens in turkey ?
i know what happens in turkey!
i didnot post the above to dis-fame cyprus. i posted it because it shocked me.
the point i wanted to raise here is a different one. the honor killings in turkey, may happen from one person (father , brother etc) who at the end of the day he considers what he did "right" or his "duty".
the amazing thing about this collective crimes, is imo , the fact that most people would not do alone what they do as a mob. its the silence that follows . and it is also the fact that they all know that what they did is wrong (unlike the honor killer) , but nobody tried to stop it at that point....but also participated!!
i mean, they didnt kill them - they tortured them!! |

Yes but these are in the mountains where they are backward people and not in a civilized island.  |

...and I suppose such vicious crimes only happen in Cyprus?? Even if it was about 40 years ago.
Whats your point here? To tell people of a horific crime or to give some Turkish nationalist numbskulls here the excuse to say it was EOKA's or Makarios' fault??? |

Yes but these are in the mountains where they are backward people and not in a civilized island. |
If the Turkish Army was not "stealing" the money of the Turkish tax paying people and sucking their blood in order to build a strong army to bully its neighbors, then there would have been more than enough money to educate those people and improve their standard of living, and consequently such racist crimes that stigmatize the entire Turkish nation, wouldn't happen.

If it had worked in Cyprus then I have no doubt that they would have initiated it in Turkey.

the story has nothing to do with the cyppro, makarios grivas or denktash!
it has nothing to do with politics!
the reason for posting it , i have already explained in my previous post.
..........
besides, its part of our history for f**** sake!
its not 3500 years of theaters of archaelogical significance, and unique churches. crimes also happened here (most probably in every other corner) , and i dont see why it should be a tabboo to mention something that happenned in my country!!
not to mention, i dont understand why it has to turn political!! |

| Bloody hell, what on earth does this have to do with Turkey? Why must you point the finger at Turkey any time a negative aspect of your history or society comes into play. He is just mentioning a crime and automatically you shout "Yeah but at look at Turkey!". Well look at yourself first, then look at Turkey. |

I dont beleive this is actually happening. The story was blatantly nothing to do with eoka etc! nor anything with turkey?! what the hell?!?!
cypez, it sounds like a horrific story, but probably a very good film ...cyprus chainsaw massacre!

I think that anyone who mentioned eoka etc would have been seen as absolute idiots because the story had nothing to do with ethnicity, the cyprob etc.
People would have to be so narrow minded and stupid to even try and link the two things.
I honestly belevie re that if you hadnt mentioned eoka, that only idiots would have attempted to link the two(and would therefore have been proven to be idiots).
AAANYWAY, this is not what this topic is about, so i think we should end it here! lol
