As I said we are talking about the situation in Thrace today, not 10 years ago and my comments are for the Thrace of today.
But on this matter who do I believe someone who reads about the situation in Thrace or someone who experienced it. Let me answer to you next year when I will go there and experience the situation myself... |

I hate to disappoint you my patriot blue and white friend:
IT IS Only know that the minority population is getting recognition in Thrace:
ONLY because the EU has to set examples:
Now they are starting to get things happening:
Like opens mosques and freedom of religion:
It is a bitter pill to swallow But look at the mosque at Lekemba, Rowville, Sth Dandenong, and other places in Australia: There are Buduist temple and everything else:
IF I was a Turkish minority in Thrace I would make Greece jump up and down through the EU:
BUT remember Turkey will HAVE TO DO the same one day with their minorities and that will be a bitter pill for the Military to swallow IF they can:
let see!
Cheers! |

I agree, the whole basis for this debate is nonsensical. |

I beleive many Greek-Cypriots viewed independency as a step to Enosis, possibly...so what?
You know very well that many Turkish-Cypriots prefer division eg. Denktash said "the Cyprus porblem was solved in 1974" and many -I can say- blindly support it. That is ok, but Enosis is not ok. Often people do not give a shit about a fair solution, they care of a solution that will maximise their own benefits. That is why Turkish-Cypriots did not care about a solution until they realised that Cyprus will enter the EU and that they gain all the benefits of it. I bet you VP if Cyprus was poor and Greece was Luxemberg many Turkish Cypriots would support Enosis
Greek-Cypriots are no better, the same strategy - maximising the benefits. For approx. 800 years we were fighting for union with Greece and all of a sudden many prefer independence because the Cypriot economy is better. Even worst, many voted Yes in the Anan Plan not because they liked the plan but because with the plan they got their properties back.
The only reason I have been mentioning Enosis is because so many people in this forum blindly oppose it. Enosis is not only fair as a result of self-determination (just like in 1950) also because Enosis completes the past. If not Enosis, it will be also be very fair if Cyprus is an independent country based on multicultural society and not ethnically divided in two major communities.
Back to reality...Turkey is not willing to back up an inch from Cyprus. The only reason they compromise is because of EU, again benefits. Turkey will accept ‘a solution’ that fulfill its agenta. A united Cyprus in a united Europe is the most logical solution for the time being but only on the basis of bi-communal solution and Turkey will only compromise if the Turkish Cypriot have 50% power. Turkey does not give a damn about Greek-Cyrpiot human rights and who will have to give up everything in order to have at-least a united Cyprus and at least some refugees returned. If the solution is based on Anan plan again or let’s say repulsewarrior plan; Greek-Cypriots will be second-class citizens as 80% will have 50% and 20% Turkish Cypriot will have again 50% power.
This is the unfair reality and unfortunately Greek-Cypriots have to compromise simply because we do not have the power to ask for our rights.
Sorry I blindly support Enosis and I am an extremist and what I write is non-sensical, therefore I shouldn’t have an opinion. Sorry people |

| Lets try and simplify it, if there is a bomb which is Enosis and people warn you that if you play with the Enosis bomb it may explode in your face and cause you and your people a lot of damage, of course as you say you have the right to play with it but in this case you selfishly went ahead and played with that bomb, it exploded in your face and caused division. and now you cry well I had every right, yes you did but you have to live with the consequences of having a few of your limbs missing. Do you get it now? |

Kifreas I agree with you:
ALL the NUMBSKULL'S who still believe in ENOSIS have already got ENOSIS and don't EVEN bloody know it!
They have GOT ENOSIS with the EU and ALSO have ENOSIS with GREECE AND WILL have ENOSIS with TURKEY when Turkey ever gets into the EU:
So what is there bloody problem?
There are 2 myths that Greek Cypriot & Turkish Cypriot ALWAYS say:
Greek Cypriot
ENOSIS with GREECE: (What a joke) but some don't laugh? Amazing! Where am I oh yes!
ENOSIS with GREECE is DEAD and Buried Mate:
Along with Makarios & GRIVAS! Thank god for that!
Turkish Cypriot:
We voted Yes to the Annan Plan:
SO what?
Get over it: Don't keep flogging it: Look at today: That Yes vote is dead and buried: The only one who mentions this is ERODGAN when the EU asks him about Cyprus he answers with this crap:
The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus voted Yes to the Annan plan!
Hallo? Is anyone there?
What will this do?
Get Turkey into the EU?
I don't think so!
Make the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus a recognized country or something?
I don't think so!
So get over it and look at 2006:
Just open the boarders:
The Turkish Cypriot take up there position in the government and on the EU council and lets get going!
The EU doesn't give a shit about the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus voting YES!:
The US doesn't give a shit about Turkey and the PKK:
And Greece doesn't give a shit about ENOSIS!
And Turkey doesn't give a shit about the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus:Wait and see in a few mouths!
So why do we?
We are all............................. EU citizens:
Country of residence................Cyprus:
Language & Religion?..............WHO CARES?
Come on Dreamers wake UP!
Now l have to go do something more important!
Cut my toe nails!
cheers
ENOSIS, we voted YES! What a joke! |

HI DP, I can understand what Stavrizatz is saying...he's talking about a democratic 'enosis', one that doesn't involve any 'ethnic cleansing', or abuse of people's human rights...simply the union of one country with another, where everybody's human rights are safe guarded...the kind of 'enosis' that the majority of Greek Cypriots wanted all those years ago..Although, I believe that 'enosis' isn't really an option any more...I mean you can't force something on people who are firmly against it.....and most people are proud of Cyprus as an independant country...you know?

Thanks Cyprus Rules...that is exactly what I mean.
... but don't forget that there are many many Turkish Cypriots who fanatically support division and many Greek Cypriots who prefer Enosis. |

The fact is that enosis, even of the kind you describe would have been disaterous for the Turkish Cypriot community in Cyprus. Even if you ignore the record of Greece re the Turks in thrace (who still today are unable by Greek law to call themselves or their assoiations turkish), then negative effects on Turkish Cypriot and their cmmunity in Cyprus would have been real. Would Turkish have been an offical language of Cyprus once it had been joined with Greece? No of course it would not. Obviously this is no problem for Greek Cypriot - but for Turkish Cypriot it is. This is just one example. There is this idea that enosis represented no valid concern for the Turkish Cypriot minority in Cyprus (already struggling to maintain an effective voice in their own homeland in the face of numerical Greek Cypriot dominance) - but this idea is a false notion imo. That people apprently can still believe that enosis was not perjorative to Turkish Cypriot and their community is an indication to me of the problem. It's like a blind spot as far as Turkish Cypriot and their communites rights and wishes go - as if they dont exists or if they exits what they want and desire is 'mistaken' or 'not valid'.

Dear Stavro...I hope you realise you are flogging a dead horse.
The fact you are flogging a dead horse and do not seem to realise or give a damn that the horse is dead is worrysome,to say the least.
That some Turkish Cypriots seem to be flogging another dead horse (Partition) is no excuse for you to flog yours. At least the Turkish Cypriots have an excuse: their brain dead horse is kept alive artificially on life support to give their mirage some semblence of reality. You have no such excuse.Get over ENOSIS,and lets see what other options we have to solve this neverending tragedy which is the Cypro... |

I understand what stav is trying to say, but like cyp rules! says, it is not supported by anyone anymore.
Its a case of thinking the grass is greener on theother side. Now cyprus is an independant country, it would seem ridiculous to join with another, but at the time, no-one knew what an independat cyprus would be like, and enosis seemed the 'natural' thing to do. |
