Greek and T/Cyps show remarkable similiarities in values and beliefs a survey suggests. Both list the family as very important in their lives with friends taking second place and working taking third. They share concern about local environmental problems though Turkish Cypriots fear problems are more serious than their Greek Cypriot counterparts.
Most place themselves at the centre of the political spectrum. An equal number of Greek and T/Cypriots place themselves on the Left but more Greek Cypriots and T/Cypriots say they belong to the right.
There is agreement that living in a country that is democratically governed is absolutely improtant. However Greek Cypriots seem more confident that the country is being governed democratically than T/Cypriots.
Greek Cypriots have slightly more confidence in religious institutions but T/Cypriots trust the armed forces more than Greek Cypriots.
Greek Cypriots identify more with the EU than T/Cypriots. Both communities consider cheating on taxes and accepting bribes as unjustifiable. They also dissaprove of abortion. Greek Cypriots are more tolerant to divorce than T/Cypriots.
