You're welcome. It really was a sad day and I think the whole of Cyprus will be watching.
Just for interest.
On that black day, 0.015125% of the Cyprus population died! If the same percentage of the US population had perished it would have been 43,000 people! And in the UK it would be like 10,000 people dying! If an equivalent diaster happened in China, 200,000 Chineese would have died!
Just goes to show how massive this was for such a small island!!! |

As ever, Wikipedia has an excellent article. The PPrune discussion (86 pages!) is worth looking into because that site is populated by people who work in the industry (so are not just armchair 'experts') ... |

| it would be nice to think that the authorities will get to the bottom of the accident and then publish the truth. |

I read today that the report will be made available in September. I don't think they will try and hide anything. Helios is pretty much dead anyway. The Cyprus mail ran a story today called "The death of an airline". Good riddence!!!

According to pprune it has been delayed several times already, which is no surprise - the investigation is clearly thorough, to the extent I have never come across a case before where there was a re-enactment of the flight which crashed, not merely simulations based on the black box data. The change of name was also "noted" |

I was thinking about this and realised that, for instantaneous deaths per head of population of a single country, this must be one of the worst accidents ever, and is also not far from being one of the worst incidents (accident+war+natural disaster) ever ...
(The combination of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the Tangshan earthquake, are the two that immediately come to mind as "larger").
The Internet has everything, including an official database of disasters (a joint US-Belgian production) ... |

Demoralised a whole nation? Do not worry my dear; our moral is not so fragile to be destructed from any such events! We have gone through far worst disasters and pains in our history, and we haven’t lost our moral or faith! No need to over dramatise such things, in such ways! |

Kifeas my friend, no matter how you slice it it still remains a tragedy. I know you are a tough guy from way back but please allow people to show their grief without sounding off with nationalistic slogans. |

The Documentary, WOW!!! It was brilliantly made by discovery channel! We where glued to the screen for an hour! It was broken into four parts and each part analyzed what might have gone wrong on Helios flight 522. The doc. concluded that the disaster could have been caused by the Staff or a burnt out backup line (people did smell smoke on that flight before).
It also told about the heroic Andreas and Haris who tried to save everyone before the plane ran out of fuel and crashed.

Kifeas your post is borderline trolling. It doesn't even deserve a response! |
