Is it wise to promote an antagonistic view when the subject of the mixing of marriage between T/c's & G/'s can or should be seen as an attempt to bring the barriers down between the two peoples.
How it can be seen as an act of Treason by the biggoted few is beyond me and i wonder whether there is a difference if the male is greek and the female is turkish ?
Is it seen as a more acceptable union if the male is greek ?
I wonder what any difference it would make? |
The current view of our life together and the view of my wife's family show a mirror image of what is not good about Cyprus.
I may have a T/c family but does that make me Bad ?
I am judged on on by the language i speak, not the comments that i have made.
Am i to blame for the Death and Destuction that has enveloped the country for the last 45 years.
I do not seek Sympathy but i would like everyone to see that the CY prob has no boundaries and that the Militant Nationalism has spread far far away to other countries.
Is that something to be proud of ?
I think not ! |

He’s a Turkish Cypriot, she’s a Greek Cypriot: happily married but facing a daily struggle to be accepted
...
Speaking to the Sunday Mail from their home in Surrey, he said: “She was standing at the counter talking to my mother in Greek when my mother called me over to introduce us. She said, ‘look Ibrahim, it’s someone from Cyprus’. That’s when I looked into her eyes and fell in love. I told myself ‘you’re going to be my wife’.”
...
They also refuse to send their children to Greek or Turkish schools in the UK.
“I don’t like what they teach. I don’t want my children to be taught bad things about Turkish people. Their dad’s a Turk, they’re half Turkish. It’s wrong,” Helen said.
Ibrahim feels the same way.
He said: “I don’t want anyone poisoning my children’s minds. They are half Turkish and half Greek. They know something happened in Cyprus but there are too many untruths and stories. If they want to learn [more], they can do so by themselves. We’re not going to teach our kids to hate where their mum and dad come from and their people.”

A Quote from Dhavlos
| Quote: |
The oldest generation have not problems with Turkish Cypriots (on the whole), my parents generation are a bit more hostile/reserved, since they never really 'lived with Turkish Cypriots', my generation i think either dont care, or are genreally more hostile, since the info that we get is just on the cyprob, and a lot comesfrom the church/ church sponsered greek schools. baiscally, i think that hostility is being breed mainly by the church/greek schools, whch for many, is there only source of constant opinion on the cyprob.

Hey 100% Cypriot, I hear what your saying, and I completely understand, but not everyone has experienced what Dhavlos has (sorry to drag you into this Dhavlos ). I went through Greek School, going to church, etc, and I can honestly say that no one ever told me to hate Turkish Cypriots...I mean, yes people were, and still are proud of their "Greekness" but their also equally proud of their "Cypriotness"..However there was, especially when I was young, resentment to what the Turkish Army did in Cyprus, which probably made some people feel, especially children, "oh then "The Turks" must be really bad...But maybe it's just that I have been quite lucky in what I experienced growing up.... |

I think another big problem, was the fact that Greek Cypriot Kids were never really educated about the Turkish Cypriots, they were only told about what the Turkish Army did (not in all cases though..). Although, now that things are moving forward, with the barriers open, and Greek Cypriot kids going over to the North, people are starting to talk about other things, not just the invasion....
I mean every Greek Cypriot kid knows that the Turkish Army invaded Cyprus, and that the Greek Cypriot aim is to reunify the Island...you know?

I like how we understand each other!! Although I wish a few people in this forum would be able to tune into each others thoughts and be a bit more open minded, instead of being stuck in their own mind set......Oh well the worlds not perfect, it's human nature I guess...(wow getting a bit deep there..lol ) |

Yes but are G/C children also being told that the T/c's Want to unite the Island as well ? If the Efforts of the T/C's are not acknowledged it will allways be a one sided thing.
I don't ever remember my mother or father preaching to me to hate greek's or telling me that they did this or they did that to us.
I learn't for myself, i listned to all the stories and worked out my own theory.
This problem can never be solved on the wishes of the G/C's alone.
Are you feeling me? |

yes 'every' g/c child know that the turkish army invaded cyprus...but do they know why?
does no-one else here see that turkey acted their right as the guarantor country to the turkish cypriots in cyprus?
and its not a question of if or what they have learned about each other, but can they accept each other? |
