Ive been listening to Cypriot-Maronite singer Sarbel. Most of his songs are in Greek. One of his songs which I enjoy listening to is called "Boro Boro." However, I'm unsure as to what language he is singing in?
Could it be Cypriot Arabic perhaps? can anybody help? |

i think it is just regular/lebanese arabic.
cypriot arabic is only spoken by a few hundred old maronite folk, i imagine it will be lost soon enough
(although his music i like) |

Charbel Michael (Σαρμπέλ Μιχαήλ in Greek) (b. 14 May 1981) is a Greek Cypriot singer of British and Lebanese origin[1]. Born and raised in London, his family would make frequent trips to Greece and Cyprus during summer vacations. At age 22 he has hit the Greek music scene and is a popular singer in Greece and Cyprus. He is currently living in Greece and records on the SONY Greece BMG label.
Charbel (pronounced "Sharbel", or "Sarbel" in spoken Greek which lacks a "sh") studied Performing Arts, Music and Drama in London's English National Opera and Opera House Covert Garden. At age 19, looking for some change in his life, he moved to Crete where he studied ancient Greek Theater, joining local drama clubs on the island[2]. He rose to fame in 2004, when he recorded in Greece the oriental hit Se Pira Sovara (Σε Πήρα Σοβαρά in Greek) featuring Eirini Merkouri, which first introduced the young singer to Greece, Cyprus and Lebanon [3] the song is based on an Arabic song called Sidi Mansour. On the same CD (a CD single) he released a second duet with Eirini Merkouri called Agapi Mou Esi In 2005, he released his first solo album, titled Paraxeno Synesthima. Sarbel is a rising star in Greece and Cyprus and currently his songs are popular with the Greek and Cypriot youth. His recent December [2005 CD single "Thelo na Petaxo" has received favourable reaction in Greece and Cyprus. So has his "Sokolata" song. |

Marina I hope they have all that info on me one day if my CD gets released in the States:
But I will be a Cypriot Singers of Cypriot origin:
Who can sing in English and swear in Greek and Turkish:
Sarbel very interesting:
We have George Micheal and Cat Stevens:
One changed religion and the other became Gay!
Are we not part of the EU or what!
Don't worry about me changing religion because I blame religion for most of the human races problems as for turning gay there are more women then men in Australia: I think it is 3 to 1 so it might be a while before I become a 4W Drive:
I know I am a lesbian because I love women:
cheers |

He sings in Persian and has had number-one hits in Sweden, Russia, Belgium, Spain, and other European countries. His name is Arash. The Iranian-born singer has received a number of music awards for his hit tune "Boro Boro" -- Persian for "Go away." Arash was recently in Prague and spoke to RFE/RL about his against-the-odds success.

I've never known Charbel to having sung 'Boro Boro'!? There was an Arabic version by Iranian singer Arash (and a later duet with some Indian people who sang in Hindi) and there was a Greek version by Pantelis Pantazis. Also, he is not a Maronite Cypriot -- he's half Greek Cypriot and half Lebanese, English-born, Greek-bred (I believe. Not 100% on the last one).
