There are a number of stories running out there. I personally do not think that it was an insult to his mother. It can not be that simple. Actually, Reuters have
this article which speculates that Materazzi called Zinedine Zidane a "dirty terrorist".
I personally refuse to see him only through this particular incident, which must have come as a result of heavy provocation and him being an emotional person. I still think that he is a exceptional player and a human being after all.
BTW, he was awarded the Golden Ball award today! |

whatever it was, it must have been very insulting, as I said earlier. Otherwise he would have surely ignored the provocation, being the famous player he is and maybe have thought about the role he plays also as an example to younger sports people.

This is what I think as well. And what most people in France think - having just seen on TV the reception the team got when returning to Paris! |

| dirty terrorist sounds something that could provoke him. of course materazzi makes a good point by claiming he is ignorant. and also i have personally never met an italian who had the education level to speak/understand english let alone say a word like terrorist. |

| It's not that deviant from English magic. I believe it's "terrorista". I can't believe that the Italian actually stooped that low to call him that name. |

Come on, you are generalising here.
Apart from that Zidane speaks Italian! He played for Juve. |

I have yet to meet an Italian person (except those who live outside of Italy) that speaks English. That's all I'm saying. But it would make sense if he said it in Italian and Zidane understood it that why. I would expect nothing else.

| According to the London correspondant of L'Equipe, Materazzi referred to Zidane's mother as a 'whore'. Apparently Zidane lost it because his mother is very ill at the moment, so such an insult would only have brought his emotions about her to the fore. If that is the case, I can't honestly blame him for his (fantastic) headcharge, I would have done much the same. |
