i think the final was finally a game that worths to be called "a world cup game" . unlike , almost all of the nockout games.
both teams played good...
france was perhaps kind of better. (henry did a great game). zidan....well big personalities also make big mistakes.
congrats to the italians |

I was so happy for Italy expecially after Zidane's headbutt (idiot!), at least he made sure his last world cup will be remember, not for lifting the trophy but for being thrown out!!
(Should have bet them to win as well!! ) |

You are dead right - it was no surprise when, after the knockout stage, things went flat. Such are the joys of, in effect, infinite information - every major team knows everything about every other major team.
Now for something provocative ... I suggest that, in the next 10 years, none of the leading nations (defined, rather arbitrarily, as England, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Portugal, The Netherlands, Brazil and Argentina) will beat any of the others by more than two goals in a meaningful match (friendy games, 'dead games' in tournaments and third-place playoffs don't count). |

Congratulations Italy... can't believe what Zidane did, it should be interesting to hear his reasons why... congratulations to Germany also for doing a fantastic job as hosts.
A little ironic that many of the Italian players could find themselves playing for Serie C clubs as of tomorrow... |
There will be an amnesty. I feel it in my bones
This comes from me reading a thoroughly recommended, brilliant book about Italian football - Calcio: A History of Italian Football by John Foot. Because of the way football is embedded into Italian life it is also a book about politics, sociology, psychology, history, even travel and architecture. And the author is a university lecturer who can actually write!
On Germany, I agree and it would be nice if the English* tabloid newspapers finally stop their continual banging on about 1945, 1966 etc. as that has given a completely false, even defamatory, impression of Germany which, in a rational world, the television pictures would have laid to rest.
However, as these publications are, in effect, people pretending to be morons writing for people considered to be morons I am not hopeful
* A surprising usage, but the Scottish ones don't do so. |

I would like to hear what Materazzi said to him! Must have been really insulting, otherwise I don't think Zizou would have lost his temper in that manner and in his last game ever!

Thanks Moosey. I think and hope that some people have changed their mind (a bit) about the Germans...

Yes, indeed. Has anyone seen/read the decision? It should be today.
None of the players was accused though.... |

From what I read in the papers, apparently Materazzi "insulted Zidane's mother."
How childish firstly for saying such a thing and secondly for reacting to it! How many times have you heard young teenage boys saying "your momma....." it's so silly! |

well, I know quite a lot of people who would go overboard when someone insults their mother. And Zidane especially has a very very close relationship to his parents... |

you are right CY. The Italians have got to bee the dirtiest players out there. And they always have been.
However, while I wont disagree that what Zidane did was poor reaction, you gotta admit; the guy went out in style. |
