so we've got a friend to do the DJing - a nice mix of English and Greek music!
|
The worst mistake you could ever make. If your going to get a DJ, make sure they are pro or have had previous experiences DJing at weddings. Nothing worse then someone who knows who to download music and burn onto CD, only to think that makes them a DJ. There is more of a skill to DJing than simply pressing the 'start' button a CD player.
I recently saw a DJ ruin what was turning out to be a really nice wedding because he didnt know what or when to play certain types of music. This dunce played a few 50 Cent and Biggie songs (AT AN ARAB WEDDING!!! lol) because he thought it would be cool for the young kids...
The moral of the story is...hire a pro. There is nothing worse and more detrimental than a wannabe DJ. |

He is a proper DJ! He's a school friend of the best man. Music is really really important to me and fiance so we've made sure it's all ok and comes at a recommendation from his best man who's more knowledgeable on weddings in Cyprus than us..
You've scared me now....am a bit gutted about the band though cos I would've liked one. |

LOL! Or techo...techno...techno...!
KLB, we went to a wedding once where they had both a band and a DJ. The band left at around 11pm (who played Arabic music - bride was Lebanese), then the DJ played a mixture (mainly English) till the early hours. |

Believe me if he does, he'll be dead! English and Greek music only (oh and some Turkish for the Turk-Cyps who are coming)....
There's no way Panayiotis would let us down by recommending a rubbish dj...I hope |

that's what we were planning but it's not working out that way. Father in law really wanted a band (he likes the old traditions) and so did I. As long as the music is a nice mixture it will be fine I think. |

Sounds like you do want a band - sorry to pry but is there really no way to have both? Sorry to stick one's nose in but if it's what you really want then why not have one? |

I would have both...not really that much hassle when you break it down.
Band plays...puts on a CD while the DJ is setting up...then voila!!!...DJ is ready to play Agadoo, The Birdy Song and Come on Eileen. |

If he even dares to play those I will walk out of my own wedding!
We are still waiting to hear about a band called The Mediterranean but other than that we had no luck finding anyone really. Everyone we spoke to in Cyprus says no-one has bands anymore and the best weddings are those without bands. Me, being English, like the whole Greek scenario, makes it different and besides, surely a live band is better than a CD...
Ok....might see if we can get that band! |

I'm interested to know why bands are not popular anymore.. We had a band who also had a good relationship with a belly dancer so we went for the traditional entertainment (my other half is English) and they went down a treat with both sets of guests. The wedding video was also priceless as you get to see the look on the wives faces watching their husbands checking out the belly dancer -which was most amusing to watch |

I find it weird as does my fiance. Apparently the money pinning isn't done much either anymore but we're still doing that.
English people love all the traditions so I know they would love a band...maybe we will still have one then, it would be much nicer.
Not sure about the bellydancer though - my dad will get carried away. I quite liked the idea of dancers too but no doubt the best man and my father in law will do their usual routine... |

Thats because they are all trying to be modern for the sake of it. You got more traditonal Cypriot weddings in London than in Cyprus.
Are you going to do the mortgage dance? |

Ha ha! That's what we call it! Yeah we're doing that although my fiance needs to brush up his greek dancing skills (I'm better than him!)
I think it's a shame that they are doing away with the old traditions - they will be like boring English weddings now... |

LOL! This is what I mean! I was getting mildy irritated with the amount of money some of our inebriated male guests were stuffing down the womans bra thinking "that had better not come out of the money they would have pinned on us!!" lol We had the money pinning ceremony as well. I agree with DLS in that the London weddings are more traditional these days!
If you want a band - go for it! |

Yeah...modern Cypriots my age annoy me lol.
All want to be ultra modern and materialistic. They think its cool to abandon tradition...its annoying and shows their small minded mentalities still. |
