Yet more Greek Cypriot introspection accompanied by a strong undercurrent of Turkish silence on their own crimes.

Besides, Mr. Koumi is unpatriotic and stands against Greece and Cyprus.

I received a copy of The Cypriot for Xmas and I thought I would save it for the summer to read in Cyprus... not a chance!

I read the first page one morning and didn't put it down till I finished it. I found the characters so real and endearing, and the story enlightening and in parts I was laughing out loud and at the end I was practically in tears. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Is there a sequel planned? I will take the book with me to Cyprus and read it again..

PS The part about the village bus driver, the chickens and the reaction of the farmers wife had me in fits of laughter...I could imagine the furore like I was there myself! Loved it!

Hi Leyla

I'm really pleased you enjoyed it. There is a sequel planned, 'The daughter' but it may be a while coming...

The chicken episode - like many others in the story - is based on real events.

Hi yourself Mr K,
I certainly did enjoy it and when I get the chance I will post a review on Amazon as well. I look forward to the sequel - I trust further anecdotes involving chickens will be included? Wink Thank you for making an otherwise grey and gloomy English winter day more colourful.

Thought this might be of interest... A recent interview with the author on the Adrian Allen show on LBC (a popular talk-radio station in London):

Seems like he liked the book.

For friends in the Camden area (north central London), the next book signing will take place at Waterstone's, 128 Camden High Street London NW1 0LU at 11am on Saturday 17th February 2007.
