sheeeeite iasked erolz about this last week, he said he had heard nothing. there was an article in cyprus today but it featured aphoto of chickens with masks, i thought it was a joke.
i am going to protaras and kyrenia in april, i hope they do not close the border. i know there has been a huge increase of tourists bookings for the north this year, this will be a massive blow for the tourist industry if it is true. |

Well I think we shouldn't panic but I think we should definately be a bit more aware, there does seem to be a very real concern in Cyprus.
My son came home from school last week and told us that the teachers had warned the pupils to stop eating eggs and chicken, if government schools have decided to tell the kids then maybe there is a real threat.
We are trying to steer clear but its not easy! |

Lisa it is like everything else you should use some common sense specially if you have a family and children: Just don't take any chances: Boil the water and keep away from Bird and their By products: Better safe than Sorrow:
And so what if you don't have some eggs and a KFC big deal: Boiled and steamed vegetables are the best:
Keep away for the farms:
This happened in Australia with a decease called Maligil cockle and everyone thought it was a joke until people started dying:
For the children sake play it safe: Boil and steam everything:
PS until they are older enough to drink Bourbon! |

| Cooked eggs and chicken meat does not pose any risk whatsoever, so the advice not to eat these products is simply wrong. The danger comes from direct contact with infected birds, until the virus makes the evolutionary jump to human-human contact, you cannot get bird flu by eating chicken, eating eggs or looking at a chicken. Any other advice is scare-mongering. |

My parents came back from Cyprus last night and apparently it is being said that they have found the virus in the south aswell but is being kept hush until they can definately confirm it. |

| Even if that was the case Bro, currently the only chance of infection is close contact with infected birds (I'm expecting a nauseatingly facetious comment from DP, but never mind). So, unless you keep chickens or spend time at a chicken farm, there is currently a negligable risk. The risk comes, as I said, if the virus makes the leap and is able to be transmitted via human-human contact. Then I'll be the first one heading for the hills. Until then, I'll enjoy my KFC tonight. |

Well, I live in Cyprus and listen to the news every day, and I haven't heard anything of this sort. What is being said is that the virus might not have arrived to the north at all. Circumstantial evidence, like the long time it took the Turkish Cypriots to issue the tests, the fact that the samples were sent to the UK via Turkey, and the fact that the virus strain found in the samples is identical to that found in Turkey, supposedly support this claim. |
