I will download the articles and start translating whenever you give us the goahead. You will need to assign certain articles to certain people to avoid duplication,I suppose.

I too was a professional translator/editor once, and I know the difficulties of editing a text from a language you don't understand. Some of us native Turkish speakers might have to check the editing of editors to see that the meaning and integrity of the original is preserved. It may be too early to worry about these technicalities anyway...I am sure we can do a job to make Ozgur proud.Well thought, moonskin!

Glad you were a pro translator Bir, perhaps you will double check the works of everyone if you don't mind.

I like the idea of this project. I also like the idea of efforts at tri lingual translations of some content.

I am still trying to get my head round how we might use the forum to organise these efforts or if there might be better approaches (like wiki maybe) than the forum sw, with the results being placed on the forum but the creation done via some other sw?

Well, in the beginning I thought of similar things as well, but then I concluded that it is not worth it to use another sw except the forum's.

As I mentioned to you already Erol, all we will need is a top level forum dedicated for this project only. In that forum there shall be no discussions about anything but the translations. Each article to be translated shall be covered in a separate thread and while the assigned translator of the thread will be pasting his output into the thread, others and especially the native speakers, will pass on judgment. I think this is pretty sufficient.

After creating the top level thread, everybody in the forum who would like to join shall pick an article from the list above and start a new thread with it, inside this new top-level forum, by posting the original content. In this way we will see who is working on what.

The articles are not that long after all, there is an example that I posted in one of the threads but one can go and check the articles from the source link as I gave in the beginning of this thread. This method works pretty well because it is essentially the same with how, for example, the "bugzilla" websites for open source sw development works. I do not see the need for more specific software, please Erol, do not waste your time for it.

As to the translation into Greek, well, to be honest, I did not think of it before. The articles will be around. So, if there are enough Greek speaking members of the forum who would like to join, then they are more than welcomed to do so! It'd be even more sweet at the end!

What do you think?

Cheers.

G'day cypezokyli,

As a matter of fact, the project has already started within this very forum by the help of Erol who gave us room to do it, which I appreciate a lot. The project is at (1).

With the submission of another draft later this evening, there will be a total of 3 articles already translated into English which are not in final state but very much readable & understandable I guess.

You are the first Greek Cypriot to volunteer here and I am very happy about that. Thank you. I must say that so far nobody who speaks Turkish showed any interest to the project since it started. Of course, this is something very much up to the people but I am slightly disappointed. Well, it doesn't matter, I'll do as much as I can. Some people I personally know will contribute as well, so I'm not entirely alone. I think it is much better way of spending time than, say, watching TV or repeating at the forums the same old stories.

If you are willing to contribute, I should probably tell you first that some of these articles might have been already translated into Greek. Some of Özker Özgür's articles might have been published in the Greek Cypriot media. Perhaps somebody could check Politis archives for his articles. Their website is all in Greek, I could not check it myself.

If you are willing to contribute and you are sure that the Greek versions do not already exist, you could perhaps follow the following procedure:

1. To have an idea how the project works, check the sticky thread at (1).

2. Check the project page regularly and determine articles that the translation process is finalised for. It is explained in the instructions how you can determine this.

3. Once articles that are finalised appears in (1), pick one of your choice and, by following the the project guidelines, start a thread for translating the articles into Greek. Basically follow the same instructions except that everything in the original instructions that refer to the Turkish version of the articles should refer to the English version in your case. And similarly, everything that refers to the English version should refer to the Greek translation.

If it sounds complicated, please do not hesitate to ask me. There are no finalised articles yet, so it will take some time until you can start your part if you are still willing to do so.

I'll later add these instructions to the project forum (1) as well.

Thank you for your interest once more.

Cheers.
