| Just 2 days ago I was reminded why I don't want to go back to London. I was driving down a busy road in Limassol, when a large Jamaican family (very rare to see in Limassol) was waiting to cross the road, the head of the family (or so I suppose) huge black guy with dreads already had his foot in the road so I curtiously decided to stop and let the whole bunch cross, he stopped and stared at me not sure wether to cross or not so I waved them across to which he took offence, bowled over the road and loudly shouted something (which I didn't understand) obviously a snide remark and all the rest of his family laughed at this comment and I was left wondering why the F**K I even stopped in the first place....as I drove on I was thankfull that I don't have to deal with idiots like that on a daily basis. I never understood the chip on some of these guys shoulder....I was not brought up to be racist but incidents like these truly do not help. |
I know excactly what you mean. Especially when these a**holes are guests in your country. I wouldn't let it bother me though Liza. Keep treating people the way you would want to be treated. |

Even though I'm not a Cypriot I would like to throw in my 2 cents worth on this thread.
I will probably remain in the US for another 4 to 5 years then move back to Turkey. Most of my extended family lives there and it would be nice to solidify those relationships again. The US is a nice place and it really offers alot to those willing to bust their ass and make something of themselves but at the end of the day it's still a rat race. Rude people, defiant kids and general bullsh*t. If I pulled some the crap kids here in America pull nowadays, my mother would have thrown her boomerang slipper at me.
I'll take the old country over this anyday. The ocean, the mountains family and dear friends. |

I've only ever been to London about three times (and that's to go to Heathrow Airport) but the place freaks me out. I've heard so many stories about how rat-infested, polluted, horrible, violent, noisy, and general sh*te the place is! Living there would be like hell from what I'd imagine, but then again I've not really been there so I can't say that. Cities in England in the next 10 years will be so awful I think. I hope that Cyprus never becomes like this.
Giorgio, you can't say that London is the best place in the world because you haven't been everywhere in the world.
In fact, it's very, very rare ( from my experience that is) to find a Greek-Cypriot that has moved to the UK from the patrida to say that they want to stay here. They all want to go back, but whether they actually do or will is another matter.

| Cypriots, it came out in a survey the other day, use the courts three times more than their European counterparts. I listened to an analyst who claimed that this behaviour shows that Cypriots exhibit jealousy, envy and malice against their fellow human beings all too often. I think Cyprus is ok, despite the Cypriots, but I'd much rather live in England. |

| Not sure, because I heard bits and pieces on the radio, but probably it concerns just the south because it was a survey conducted only in EU countries. |

That also shows that Cypriots choose to solve their differences in civilised way, instead of resorting to mafia practices and methods, as they do in other countries in which there is no faith in justice and /or the system is corrupted. |

Hmmm.....wonder what "other" countries Kifeas may be speaking of. Turkey perhaps? Naaaaaa, can't be because Kifeas has not gotton up off his rump to visit Turkey yet. Kifeas would never generalize. |

| It also shows how easily accessible is the court system for all the citizens, irrespective of wealth. In some countries, poor people cannot pass even outside the courts, set aside to seek their help and /or use their services. |

Both countries have their qualities, and I really like English weather, which is something very strange to some of my family. The weather here is mild and nice (and I love the rain if I'm inside ), and I would hate it to be a warm/hot country, yet I love the Cypriot weather. I would hate Cyprus to be like it is here, and I love it for being so hot. If I lived there, I would like to go up a mountain for a break in winter, and see the snow. Surprisingly enough there are still tourists that go on skiing trips.
It's weird really, because when I'm in England, I like it (except for when it nears Kypro time) and when I'm in Cyprus I don't wanna come home! Don't know if any of you feel like that but I do .

Oh well, we will just have to do with trying to defend our European Cup. |
